Diabetic Foot Syndrome

What is Diabetic Foot Syndrome?

Diabetic foot syndrome refers to pathological changes in the foot that occur as a consequence of long-standing diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder in which blood glucose levels remain persistently high. Diabetic food syndrome includes poorly healing wounds, which develop predominantly at pressure points on the sole of the foot.

Development.

Persistently elevated blood glucose levels can impair nerves and blood vessels over time. Reduced pain sensation means that minor injuries go unnoticed, while impaired perfusion makes healing more difficult.

Prevention and Wound Care.

Regular foot inspection, suitable footwear and careful hygiene are key preventive measures. Where wounds are already present, measures to reduce the microbial surface load as PLASMO®HEAL PRO can be used as a complementary treatment to standard care.
