Pressure Ulcer

What is a pressure ulcer?

A pressure ulcer (bedsore) is a wound affecting the skin and underlying tissue, caused by sustained pressure or shear forces. Areas over bony prominences are particularly vulnerable, such as the tailbone, heel, or hip.

Development and risk factors.

Sustained pressure impairs blood flow to the tissue, so it no longer receives enough oxygen and nutrients. Risk factors include limited mobility, moisture on the skin, advanced age, and poor general health.

Prevention and care.

The focus is on regular pressure relief, skin care and hygiene. Measures as PLASMO®HEAL PRO to reduce the microbial surface load can be used as a complementary treatment to standard wound care and support a wound environment conducive to healing.
